Abstract of the talk:

Computing is an integral part of graphics. The desire to enhance photorealism in computer generated images has elevated rendering algorithms to new heights. In this talk, we will look at some of the fundamental rendering algorithms that are capable of generating breathtaking imagery thus crossing the “Uncanny Valley” of the real and the synthesized. What makes these algorithms tick is the graphics hardware (GPU) that was developed over last 10 years. We will look at the journey of GPUs from their inception within graphics to their widespread use in the scientific computation community.
