Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST approved a three-year funding grant for the  project “AI based 3D visualisation of computed tomographic datasets“. This funding comes as a Core Research Grant (CRG) award to Dr. Ojaswa Sharma. This project is in collaboration with Dr. A V Subramanyam and Dr. Saurabh Gupta from AIIMS.

This project aims to bring AI to enhance and provide 3D visualisation of computed tomography (CT) datasets to enhance the quality of medical support to patients and help doctors in easily, quickly and accurately diagnose problems. The key application areas of that will be addressed by our research are medical surgical training, and visualisation and diagnosis. Primary objectives of our proposed research are to use AI for quality improvement and colourisation of CT datasets, and real-time interactive 3D visualisation. With AI assisted algorithms, we propose to increase the level of details of 3D medical volumes by estimating the geometry and structures of different tissues and organs. We will investigate the problems of volume colourisation and stylisation for enhanced visualisation. We envisage that our developed algorithms and tools can be readily used in clinical applications. Our developed proof- of-concept could be taken to a commercial level to develop high-quality and interactive 3D visualisation software for national use across hospitals.
