Graphics group receives DST SERB funding

3D modelling SERB
Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST approved a three-year funding grant for the  project “Algorithmic 3D Modeling and Virtual spatial interactions”. This funding comes as an Early Career Research (ECR) award to Dr. Ojaswa Sharma.

The project aims to investigate 3D tangible interactions in virtual 3D space. This will allow users to experience the physical space remotely and interact with virtual objects in a physically correct way. Manual creation of large architectural landscapes is not only time-consuming, but is also error prone. Large scale and accurate 3D geometry creation from real-life objects is a challenging problem in computer graphics. Digital replica of real-life geometry can be used to enable a number of applications. These applications will be channelized by means of 3D immersive virtual environments. Further, this research will explore 3D tangible interactions and collaborations in virtual space and address collaborations that become even more complex during peer-to-peer interactions. It is anticipated that this research will produce novel algorithms for creation of large virtual worlds and 3D spatial interactions for remote collaboration. This research will be useful in many critical scientific applications including disaster management, security, and remote assistance (telepresence).
